CLUB CODE OF CONDUCT

This code provides the framework to ensure the maintenance of discipline on the field of play and to penalise any other action which brings the game or the club into disrepute.

The basic premise is that the current Hockey Association Rules apply in full interpretation, for both men and women, for all aspects of Braintree Hockey Club activities both on and off the pitch. The club is responsible for applying these rules to their members.

If any club member is cautioned, in any way, the Team Captain is responsible for submitting a brief report to the Club Captain prior to, or at the next Club Selection Meeting. (This report should be similar in nature to the Hockey Association Report.) The player concerned has to sign this report as correct. Any disagreement can be annotated on the report by the player concerned.

All activities related to hockey, when representing the club, should be monitored by the Team Captains. Any untoward activity, on or off the pitch, even if not reported by an umpire, should be reported to the Club Captain by the Team Captain at the next selection meeting for consideration by the Disciplinary Committee.

The club insists that any player cautioned should on the day apologise to the umpire or body concerned; the Team Captain is responsible for ensuring this happens.

A Disciplinary Committee, made up of the two Club Captains and the Team Captain concerned, will convene at the selection meeting, prior to the actual team selection, to allocate such disciplinary measures as it feels necessary, in line with or in excess of Hockey Association rules.

Such disciplinary measures will be, with reasons, reported to the selection committee, the management committee and the player concerned, without delay.

The person concerned has, at all times, the right of appeal to the higher executive body of the management committee.

PLAYING OBJECTIVES

The overall objective of the club is to provide hockey for all members who wish to play. All members who are usually available should be used on a regular basis not just as a fill-in at short notice when a team is short of players. Members should recognise that there will be promotion and demotion of players on merit between teams.

At the beginning of each season and at regular intervals during the season the youth selection representatives should meet with adult captains to discuss junior members who should be making the transition from youth hockey to adult hockey. A list of youth members should be provided to all adult team captains indicating standards and positions plus any other relevant information.

Every member of the club should be made to feel valued. Whilst consideration should be given to juniors coming into adult sides, the juniors and their parents must be aware of their responsibilities to senior club hockey. Every effort will be made to ensure that a junior player is not isolated in a senior team.

All members of the club should be made aware that it is no acceptable to drop out unless there is a very good reason.

All members who wish to play should be available on a regular basis. It should be borne in mind that youth members have commitments to school and divisional hockey which takes priority over the club commitments as do adults have commitments to work. This should not be held against them when they are available.

All players are reminded that they represent Braintree Hockey Club and should act in accordance with the club code of conduct as laid out in the club handbook.
